STARS!

After the Chris Tomlin concert a few weeks ago I thought a lot about the Greatness and Power of God to create the mind-boggling expanse we call the Universe. Last week's message at CCM by Pastor Marcus Denny brought into sharper perspective, God's creation of the universe and the stars.

Thinking about it brought me back to my 9th Grade science class in India, where I learnt about the life stages of a Star.

So here is a short explanation as I remember it from 5 years ago. I'm trusting my memory on this so if I'm mistaken in anyway, please let me know. So here it goes....

A Star starts out as a cluster of gases and particles and forms clouds called a Nebula where temperatures approach 3000° C..

Nebula

At this temperature, fusion begins to take place and the gravity and mass of the cluster increases. It forms a baby star or Protostar...

Protostar

As it continues to heat up and the temperature reaches the millions °C, it is a bonafide Star. This is the longest stage and this is the stage our sun is currently in...

Star

After all the fusion has depleted the Hydrogen and formed helium, the Gases expand outward as a ring, but the center continues to fuse Helium. The star expands to form a Red Giant....

Red Giant

From here on, it depends on the size of the star. If it is the size of the sun or smaller, it continues to fuse and becomes more dense. It forms a White Dwarf...

White Dwarf

If however, the size is larger than the sun, The center explodes into a Supernova, which can light up a galaxy...

Supernova

From here there is another split based on size. Star between 1.5 and 3 times the size of the sun, become very dense Neutron stars. As Pastor Marcus pointed out, a teaspoonful of Neutron Star weighs about a Million tons.

Neutron Star

If the star is larger than 3 times that of the sun, It collapses on itself to form a Black Hole. The gravity in the black hole is so strong, that not even light photons can escape form it, hence the name. This pictures shows light bending and being sucked into a black hole.

Black Hole

So Yes, after i wrote all this, I realize what a HUGE Nerd i am, but it's all good!

But consider this, There are millions upon billions of stars, each in a different stage of it's life.

Guess what, the Power of Our God is so awesome he knows each one in it's different stage by Name.

Psalm 147:4: "He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name."

The stars make up only a portion of what exists in the universes. It also includes various others bodies like asteroids, comets, planets and the list goes on...

All this was created merely by the words of our creator. It was an expanse created effortlessly by his breath.

Psalm 33:6: "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth."

Truly, How Great is Our God who creates the unimaginable, incomprehensible vastness of the Universe by his breath. The Universe is so vast it strectches billions of light years in all direction.

For those who don't know, a Light year is the Distance traveled by Light in 1 Calender Year (365.25 Days) at the speed of 186,000 Miles/second, which translates to about 5,879,000,000,000 Miles.

This is a mind-numbing number which when multiplied by a billion gives something which our minds cannot even grasp around, all this created by the breath of our God.

On another note, Resolved 2007 was possibly life altering for me. It was an overwhelming experience of being saturated with God's word.

India 2006

I finally got back from my vacation in India and got around to uploading pictures.
Break was really good, I had a good time catching up family and friends and it was a good trip overall.
Unfortunately I probably picked up some sort of an infection so I'm on like 3 different types of medication to clear everything from worms to malaria....one of the consequences of visiting a tropical country and constantly eating out.

-> Pictures Uploaded! <-

Short post I know...but I'll leave you guys with a video from the beach!

106 Promenade

OKay so I'm totally bored so I'm gonna post up some random videos of what goes on at Rancho San Joaquin Apartment 106 Promenade.

James teaching Travis to Wrestle. Travis gains the upper hand then James puts him back in his place with an Arm Bar!

Seriously, this is the most aggressive I've ever seen Travis.

This is David believing he can fly and crashing into Travis.

Poor T, taken soo much abuse today.

Ofcourse what's a Rancho video without......SMASH

SURFING!

This is a totally random post.
So at about this time last year, Week 2 of Fall quarter, I started my first Surf Class.
Little was i to know that it would end up being one of the funnest things I ever learnt how to do.

People say that surfers are beach bums, they waste hours doing absolutely nothin productive.
While I agree that it is very consuming and leads to very a laid back lifestyle and attitude, it definately taught me certain things. For one, I learnt how to be patient. You have to be patient in order to pick the right wave and get a good ride. We surfers are motivated by the never ending quest to find the "Perfect Wave".

Another thing I learnt is the absolute physical power of nature over us humans.
I surfed in about 6-8 Foot surf last winter at Huntington Beach and I got pounded. There I was, sitting there on this floaty board staring at a wall of water approaching and before I knew it I was pounded you and left breathless. Yes, while these waves are rideable, it still demonstrates that Water and nature's power to use it is pretty awesome and destructive.

This is an example of what I'm talking about!

While I would love to do this, it's pretty impossible with my low skill level.

This documentary on surfing is really good. It's called Step into Liquid and it has some really cool stuff. A must see for anyone remotely interested in surfing.

People also ask me if I'm afraid of Sharks, and to be honest, while they do scare me, I don't think about it at all while I'm in the water.
Ahh I miss the Ocean, the feeling of sitting out there, staring into the sunset with nothing but water around you is breathtaking. It's a feeling hard to describe but essential to experience. Surfing was my get away from daily life, To be there on my own was somehow extremely peaceful.

Seeing as it has become such a passion for me, I am always willing to go and teach people. Currently, I'm looking to sell my board and buy a new one. So yes, if anyone wants to go, hit me up!
